Irradicating prisons entirely would require the extinction of evil, which doesn't seem likely to ever happen in our current world. I've always thought though that there should be a separate system for violent and non-violent offenders as well as a lot more programs developed for specific crime clusters, like theft, drug offenses and prostitution. I think it can be done although as always it takes time, money and motivation.

As far as prison guards and some police officers in this country, many of them are little more than thugs themselves. Sad to say.

All of this is such a huge problem to tackle and sort out! I'm glad there are people willing to take it on and deal with it. Great article!
