It's amazing how things like that stays with us for the rest of our lives.

As I walked up to ask the teacher, I saw it. It was in the trash can. I was initially stunned, and then felt deeply ashamed that my work was of such low quality that it was thrown away. I didn’t retrieve it from the trash, nor ask the teacher why it was there. I silently walked back to my desk and hoped no one else would notice that my work was the only one missing.
